Located above the Apurimac valley, surrounded by the snow capped Salkantay mountains, and hidden in a lush green mountain top lies Choquequirao. Choquequirao is an ancient mountain-top ruins often referred to as "Machu Picchu's sister" for their similarities. This trek is 4 days of hiking and 3 nights camping on the trail. |
DAY 1 Cusco - Cachora
After breakfast in your hotel, we’ll pick you up at 5.30AM and travel by private bus to Cachora, on the way we’ll see the districts of Izcuchaca, Tarawasi and Limatambo each town with different style of life but with friendly people.
We’ll also visit the Cunyac bridge which is the border between Cusco and Apurimac. Later we’ll arrive in the district of Curawasi where we’ll stop for lunch.
After lunch we’ll travel by bus to Cachora where we’ll interact with the people and learn about their culture and customs. Here we’ll camp for the night. (B,L,D in camping site)
DAY 2 Cachora - Santa Rosa(Cañaveral)
Our tour guide will wake you up around 5AM, and after breakfast we’ll start hiking a smooth trail and arrive to Waywa qalli mountain(3800M). From this point we’ll hike down to the Apurimac river, feeling the breeze from the river around noon, and after 6 hours hiking we’ll have lunch and then a break.
Later we return to our trail and ascend toward Santa Rosa (Cañaveral) to camp and have dinner.

DAY 3 Santa Rosa(Cañaveral) - Choquequirao - Santa Rosa
After breakfast we’ll hike toward Choquekirao, using a less steep part of the trail. After an hour and a half of hiking, we’ll arrive at Marampata and rest.
Then we’ll rejoin our trail and start the last section that leads to the last Inkan refuge or Choquekirao. Here the tour guide will inform you on the details of Choquekirao as you walk through the ruins. After this tour you’ll have free time to enjoy the beauty of these ruins and take pictures. Later we’ll take a break for lunch, and finally we’ll return to our camping site in Santa Rosa where we’ll camp and have dinner.

DAY 4 Santa Rosa(Cañaveral) Cachora
After breakfast we’ll follow the trail back to Cachora and hike the last and most difficult part of the trail, passing Waywa Qalli mountain on the way. This section of the trial will last about 6 hours.
We’ll have our last lunch once we reach Cachora and then we’ll travel by bus to Cusco, arriving around 7PM. (B,L in camping site)
