Destination: Lima - Puerto Maldonado

Time: 4 days / 3 nights

Day 01: Lima - Puerto Maldonado

Transfer to the airport and board your flight to Puerto Maldonado. After arrival, we will go to the port on the river Tambopata.
After traveling by boat, we will hike for a time to a small canal where we will board a small canoe that will take us to Sandoval Lake. After breakfast, we will travel by catamaran to visit the western side of the lake. In the afternoon the macaws arrive here to roost overnight or to nest.
Dinner. At night we will go by boat in search of the back caiman. Accommodation in Sandoval lake lodge.

Day 02: Puerto Maldonado - Sandoval lake

Before breakfast we will visit the lake to look the birds and monkeys that leave early in the morning looking for food and with luck we might see the giant otters fishing. The giant otter is an endangered species. We will return to the lodge to have lunch and later we will see how the native people of this area harvest , open, and sell the chestnut, an important product for the economy of this area.
Lunch and time to relax. In the afternoon, we will visit the eastern side of the lake where we will look for one or more of the 5 species of monkeys from this area, the most popular of which is the Capuchin monkey.
Return to the lodge to have dinner, and at night we could go again in search of the black caiman in the lake or we could walk thought the bosqueprimario (primary forest)

Day 03: Puerto Maldonado - Sandoval lake

In the morning, we will cross the lake by catamaran there we will hike a short trail into the rain forest to watch the different type of birds such as parrots and macaws.
Later, we will cross the lake again to explore a trail into primary forest to explore the giant trees of the rain forest. Later we will go back to have lunch. In the afternoon free time to relax and rest and for those with extra energy, there are many nearby paths to walk.
Later, we will travel by catamaran to explore the western side of the lake and look an impressive sunset. After dinner, we will have our last chance to see the black caiman.

Day 04: Puerto Maldonado - Lima

After breakfast, we will have a short visit to the western part of the lake, then we will return to Puerto Maldonado by way of the river Madre de Dios and meet your flight at the airport in Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival to Lima we will transfer you to your hotel.
