Destination: Manu

Time: 6 days / 5 nights

Day 01: Cusco - Bosque nublado (cloud forest)

We will start our trip to Manu with a meandering early morning ascent toward the Andes. After a brief stop at the chullpas of Ninamarca (pre-inka ruins) the road goes down to the colonial town of Paucartambo where we will stop again to stretch our legs and learn more about this colonial town and it's most interesting places.
We leave Paucartambo ascending through a forest of eucalyptus, agricultural fields, and some zones of native vegetation. Minutes after Paucartambo we will arrive in Acjanaco (3500 m.a.s.l) where we will see the eastern part of the Andes. From this point we will enter into reservabiosferadel Manu" (the biosphere reserve of Manu) above clouds, we will look down at the lush of the rain forest. As we descend from Acjanaco, the Andean paramo (desolate territory of the Andes) will became a forest of small trees. During the trip, we will search for orchids and local flora. We will also stop at lookouts to admire how the vegetation changes, we will look for the colorful birds of this area. While we descend we will enter into el bosquenublado (cloudy or fog forest) where the top of the trees are covered by a mist that gives live to many plants, lush moss, ferns and chusquea ( a type of highland bamboo)This area is a favorite of a wide variety of birds.
We will quietly visit a platform and watch the fascinating dance of the national bird of Peru "el gallito de lasrocas" (the cock of the rock)

Finally we will arrive at the lodge. Accommodation here in the cloudy forest.

Day 02: Bosque nublado (cloud forest) - Boca Manu

At sunrise, we will go to the port of Atalaya at the orgin of the river Alto Madre de Dios, from here our trip to the selvabaja (low jungle) will be by motor boat. During the trip we will eat on the boat. Throughout the trip we will see different types of flora and fauna along the river. We will continue our trip to the lodge located near the town of Boca Manu.
If we have time, we can hike in the afternoon or evening. Dinner and accommodations.

Day 03: Boca Manu - Casa Matsiguenka

After breakfast, we will board our boat to the National park of Manu. We will stop briefly at the control point of Limonal to show our permits. We will continue by boat along the river and enjoying all that nature offers to our eyes, such as the caiman, capybaras, turtles, and other mammals.
We will have lunch on the boat and in the afternoon, we will arrive at La casa Matsiguenka, we will be greeted by the natives of this place and they will show us their skills with the bow and arrow and if they have time, one of the members could be our guide for the next day and show us the area.

Day 04: Casa Matsiguenka

At this point, we will travel by catamaran in the cocha Salvador ( Salvador swamp) in search of giant otters (PteronuraBrasiliensis), Black caiman, and likely different species of monkeys. We will also wander for trails in the forest that belongs to La casa Matsiguenka in search for spider monkeys (Athelespanicus) and with luck we will see huanganas (tayassupecari) and many other species of birds such as macaws and parrots.

Day 05: Casa Matsiguenka - Boca Manu- Atalaya

Early in the morning, we will travel by boat on the river Manu. we will see mammals, later we will stop at control point of Limonal, to register our exit.
In Boca Manu we will have time to relax and later continue our trip on the river Madre de Dios to Atalaya where we will explore some trails in the forest. Accommodation in the lodge near Atalaya.

Day 06: Atalaya - Bosque Nublado - Cusco

Early in the morning, we will explore the flora and fauna, and after breakfast we will continue our tour from Atalaya back to Cusco going thru the cloud forest and the Andean landscape. We will have lunch on the way back, at one of the lookouts there is a marvelous view of the snowcapped mountain and eastern mountains. In Cusco, you will be transfered to your hotel. End of service.
